Kiwanians hear from Lincoln on state of the airport

- By DEVIN AMMONS

On Tuesday, March 26, the Starkville Kiwanians heard from Rodney Lincoln, who has been the airport director for George M. Bryan Field for 20 years.

Located at 114 Airport Road, the airport is a cityowned, public-use airport located about three miles southwest of the central business district of Starkville. It was named in honor of World War II veteran and Starkville native George Martin Bryan. The airport is capable of handling small aircraft and offers no commercial flights.

Lincoln talked about his time at the airport and how the number of aircraft and the facility has grown over the last 20 years.

“I like working with people,” said Lincoln. “When I first started in 2004, we had about 20 based aircraft at the field…today we have 65 based aircraft at the field. There's 3 jets and I'm working on number 4.”

Lincoln highlighted how, with 65 aircraft, the airport is growing exponentially and will continue to over the coming years.

“We've got 2 twins out there,” said Lincoln. “We've got a King Air 90 and a Cessna twin-engine 421. That's a part of those 65 aircraft. It's really grown, and we've just built a corporate hangar and it cost us about $809,000 for a 65 by 70 hangar.”

The airport also has selfserve fuel stations and boasts a nearly perfect 4 out of 5 stars fuel grade with Lincoln making sure to mention that 5 out of 5 stars are very rarely given out, making 4 mark exceptional service and premium quality.

“We have self-serve jet fuel,” boasted Lincoln, “We have a lot of medical helicopters that hit our gas tanks at night, so it's really good. Just to give you an idea, in 2023 we sold just over a million dollars in fuel.”
