Barbara Jean Jensen

April 12, 1963 - December 21, 2022

Barbara, age 59, was born in Quincy, WA to Jerald and Frances (McKern) Hirsch. Barbara grew up in Rice, WA and graduated from Kettle Falls high school where she was well liked. She was active in 4H, a National Honor Society member, active in photography class, and a member of the Junior and Senior Year Book staff.

Barbara married right after high school and was blessed with two sons, Jerimy and Jonathon. She worked at the local Statesman Examiner and Sprouse Ritz while the boys were little, then moved to Duvall, Washington where she began working for the State of Washington. She then moved to Olympia, Washington to work for the Department of Licensing.

Barbara married her good friend Gary Jensen in Colville on August 24, 1991. Their families did a lot of traveling and camping together when they were younger. They made their home in Olympia where the boys attended school and graduated from Olympia High School. Barbara worked for the Department of Licensing for 30 years until her illness required her to retire in September, 2020.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Frances (McKern) Hirsch, her father Jerold Hirsch, and her sister Theresa Hirsch.

She is survived by her husband Gary Jensen; son Jerimy (Lana) Callen and granddaughters Addison Callen and Madelyn Callen; son Jonathon (Ashley) Callen and granddog Winston; brother Michael Hirsch; and sister Kathy (Hirsch) Baumann.

Barb’s dream of seeing her sons married was recently realized – her youngest Jonathon in April 2021 and her oldest Jerimy in November 2022.

Barb was an avid reader, movie watcher, Cirque du Soleil lover, and her favorite way of passing the time was playing games with her family and friends. She loved spending time with her grandkids and was so very proud of them. She also loved taking photos and was a natural at capturing the heart of each.

Barb’s Celebration of Life will be held in the spring, details will be published when the venue and time are set.
