Annual Meeting for the Stevens County Conservation District

The 2023 Annual Meeting for the Stevens County Conservation District (SCCD) and Stevens County Noxious Weed Control Board (SCNWCB) will be held Thursday February 23, from 8: 30 AM to 3: 45PM at the Stevens County Sheriff ’s Ambulance Training Center, 425 N Highway, Colville (next to Ronnie D’s Drive In). Registration will begin at 8: 00 AM for coffee and refreshments. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The Conservation District will give an update on the programs and projects they are working on. As well as hold elections for a position on its Board of Supervisors from 8: 00 AM to 1:00 PM.

This year’s keynote speakers are Jon Paul Driver, an economist from WSU Extension speaking about building resilient farms (macroeconomics). Jessica Kuchan from Confluence Law, LLC will be providing information regarding the Stevens County Water Bank and Water Rights.

Other guest speakers will include representatives from Wilbur Ellis, presenting on adjuvants and herbicide rotation for enhanced weed control. Farm Service Agency, the Natural Resource Conservation Service, and WSU Stevens County Extension will provide updates on their programs.

SCNWCB will hold the 2023 Weed List Hearing, and have 2 weed identification presentations. The Weed Board will hold their business meeting following the day’s events.

SCCD and the Voluntary Stewardship Program will also be presenting the inaugural Conservation Farmer of the Year award to Lynn and Becky Miner from Chewelah WA.

There will be 4 WSDA Pesticide recertification credits ( pending) and 6.5 WCLA Master Loggers CE credits.

Lunch will be available for purchase onsite ($ 6) for those who pre-register by February 16. Call SCCD at 509- 6847579 or email SCCD@ stevenscountywa.gov and provide names of those who wish to purchase lunch.

No pre- registration is required if you will not be buying lunch.
