James “Jim” D. Arnold
James “Jim” D. Arnold, 95 years of age, passed away on January 26, 2023 of natural causes. Jim was born in Gentry County, Missouri, the son of Thomas Leon and Melcena May (Hulett) Arnold. Jim spent most of his childhood in
Michigan upper peninsula. Jim was a World War II veteran that served in the United States Navy. After his service in the Navy, he moved to Battle Creek, Michigan. There he met and married Marlene Bailey, of Battle Creek, Michigan in 1950. In 1957 the family moved to Washington State where Jim operated the Gifford-Inchelium Ferry on the Columbia River for over 35 years. Later, Jim worked as an operator on the Columbia Princess, the ferry between Inchelium and Gifford, owned by the Colville Confederated Tribes.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to country western music, playing his guitar, watching the Seattle Mariners and tinkering in his shop. He also had a love of nature and his many pets over the years. His family loves him dearly and he will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughter, Karen (Emil) Caruthers; son Eric Arnold, all of Colville, WA; grandsons, Rhett ( Jenni) Nullet of Colville, WA, James (Stephanie) Arnold of Spokane, WA; granddaughter, Trilene Arnold of Spokane, WA, seven great grandchildren and his beloved dog Alex.
