Mat Classix XXXIV Results

After numerous local wrestlers qualified for the Mat Classic XXXIV quite a few managed to finish on the podium at the end of the penultimat­e 2022- 2023 high school wrestling tournament.

Colville’s Connor Goff finished in fifth place at 145 pounds after outscoring Castle Rock’s Ian Burton 7- 1. Kettle Falls’ Sam Drake ( 120) and Kaden Hippler ( 285) finished in sixth place, while Springdale’s Kevin Moehnke ( 113) finished eighth.

Chewelah had a successful Mat Classic, Jared Haden ( 152) was second, losing the championsh­ip match by pin to Tonasket’s Chris Rodriguez. Nolan Jeanneret ( 160) was also second losing in the championsh­ip to Granger’s Cody Norwood by a 8- 1 score. Bringing home Chewelah’s third second place finish was Clay Jeanneret ( 170) who lost his championsh­ip match to Tonasket’s Ameron Bretz by pin. Tyler Pettigrew ( 285) finished third, Dekota Acosta ( 160) finished fourth, Glenn Eggelston ( 132) finished in sixth place, and as a team the Cougars finished third with 123 points.

Republic/ Curlew’s Evelynn Phillips ( 125) finished sixth at state, Selkirk’s Spencer Duty ( 106) finished in fifth place, Jameson Davis ( 138) finished sixth, and Jaxson Chantry ( 113) finished eighth.

In team scores competitio­n Toppenish crushed the 1A bracket with 375 points, well ahead of second place Mount Baker’s 99 points. Omak ( 86.5), La Center ( 74), and Lakeside ( 71) rounded out the top five. In 1B/ 2B team scores Tonasket was first with 202.5 points, Forks ( 156.5), Chewelah ( 123), Okanogan ( 103), and Granger ( 97) rounding out the top five. In the girls team scores Toppenish was champion with 299 points, with White River ( 110), Royal ( 70.5), Goldendale ( 58), and W. F. West ( 55.5) filling out the top five.
