On the Road

♦ With the 2018 United Pacific/STREET RODDER Road Tour season barely in our rearview mirror, it is already time to start thinking about our 2019 schedule. We will be celebrating 24 years of Road Tour adventures, and I thought it might be interesting to get some input from our readers and the folks who have spent many miles on past Road Tours with me.

Our car for 2019 is going to be a 1955 Ford sedan built custom style by Troy Ladd and his fantastic crew at Hollywood Hot Rods in Burbank, California.

Since the car is going to be on the West Coast, I thought maybe we should start at the L.A. Roadsters Father’s Day Show in June. With the L.A. Roadsters back at the reins of the event, I think we could get a special place for our group to park. From there it could be a cross-country boogie to the MSRA Back to the 50’s in St. Paul. What do you think? Too far?

In July, we will definitely be back in Syracuse for the week leading up to the Syracuse Nationals. They will be celebrating their 20th anniversary, and they want us to be a part of the celebration. At the end of July, we will be back in Lincoln, Nebraska, to kick off the Speedway Motors Tour to the 50th NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville. The Nationals is going to be huge as we all celebrate a half-century of fun with cars, NSRA style.

We have to be in Detroit for the Woodward Dream Cruise. With 40,000 cars and about 1 million people, we want to be a part of that party. We had so much fun in Nashville this year over Labor

Day Weekend that we have decided to go back to Music City to give a cowboy boot kickoff to the Shades of the Past Tour to Pigeon Forge. The Hot Rod Roundup in Pigeon Forge has become the place to be the Friday and Saturday after Labor Day.

Cruisin’ the Coast is an event like no other in the country. For one full week, about 90 miles of Mississippi Gulf Coast turns into the World’s Largest Block Party. We will be back in Biloxi, Mississippi, for the whole week and Rick Love, Jack Chisenhall, and the Vintage Air Tour is coming in to join us in the festivities.

With so many of us in Mississippi, we should go somewhere after the Cruisin’ the Coast party. This year we headed west to California. Maybe for 2019 we will take the Sherm’s Custom Plating Tour west, but make it a Run to the Sun for that big event in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Is there anyone up for that challenge?

We have some choices to make. Let me know your thoughts. Send your thoughts to road[email protected] streetrodderweb.com. I cannot guarantee that I can answer all the emails, but I will certainly read them and consider your suggestions. Should we make some long-distance runs in 2019, or do you like the weeks we spend in one location? I have to decide fairly soon, so get those suggestions in ASAP.

The schedule will be at streetrodder.com and registration will open in January. I hope you will join us on the 24th edition of STREETRODDER’s Road Tour.

■ During the 2019 season there are a number of milestones that will be celebrated. The Syracuse Nationals turns 20 and the NSRA Street Rod Nationals celebrates 50 years of being the Granddaddy of all rod runs. The STREET RODDER Road Tour will spend its 24th edition traveling to these and many other events.
