SPARK IT UP!

Performance Distributors’ D.U.I. HEI Distributor

-

THERE ARE VARIOUS reasons to ditch your existing distributor. Maybe you want more performance or efficiency, or you’ve experienced catastrophic failure. No matter the reason, if you’re working with a vintage engine running an old points-style setup, it generally makes sense to upgrade to an HEI (High Energy Ignition) distributor.

First introduced in 1974 by GM, HEI distributors provided more voltage and greater spark compared to points distributors, and only required a hot lead for operation. Although larger than a traditional distributor, the integrated coil-on-cap design made operation simpler and cleaned up the engine compartment. Plenty of aftermarket manufacturers currently make HEI distributors, but only a few offer unique features that bear mentioning.

Performance Distributors’ D.U.I. (Davis Uniform Ignition) distributors are tuned for specific engines and needs, dispelling worries about setting the timing curve and getting you back on the road quickly.

They also feature the latest technology available in the ignition industry and sport proprietary features that you’ll only find in D.U.I. distributors, such as an available model with an adjustable slip collar to finetune distributor depth. Other features include a Cross-fire distributor cap and an Ultra-poly composite drive gear.

A built-in HEI 50,000-volt coil allows plug gapping up to .055 inch, and with the D.U.I.’S Dynamodule, the increased spark and dwell ensures complete and powerful combustion. The more complete burn means faster starting, improved fuel economy and smoother idle. When combined with D.U.I. Livewires 1,400-degree resistant performance plug wires, you’ve got a winning combination that will transform your ignition system.

Let’s follow along to see how Travis Pruis from CTP Concepts installed a new D.U.I. from Performance Distributors. If you’d like more information, check out the info listed in the source box.
