Trump Picks New NIFA Di­rec­tor

Soil sci­en­tist J. Scott An­gle, for­mer dean of agri­cul­ture at the Univer­sity of Ge­or­gia, was named by Pres­i­dent Trump as the new di­rec­tor of USDA’s Na­tional In­sti­tute of Food and Agri­cul­ture, which dis­trib­utes $1.3 bil­lion in grants an­nu­ally to re­searchers. Mean­while, USDA ex­tended the dead­line to Oc­to­ber 15 for “ex­pres­sions of in­ter­est” by lo­cal­i­ties and states to be­come the new home of NIFA and the ERS, which USDA wants to move out of Wash­ing­ton by the end of 2019.
