Char­ity event at Mardi Gras

A char­ity poker tour­na­ment is set for 6:45 p.m. April 1 to ben­e­fit Scheck Hil­lel Com­mu­nity School, a pri­vate Jewish school near Aven­tura.

The 10th an­nual Hil­lel Poker Tour­na­ment of­fers early reg­is­tra­tion on­line. Reg­is­tra­tion in­cludes a 6 p.m. din­ner and a chance to win the top prize of $10,000.

The tour­na­ment is at Mardi Gras Casino, 831 N. Federal High­way, in Hal­lan­dale Beach. Cost is $200 per player in ad­vance, $250 at the door.

Ja­son We­ber won $115,000 on Mon­day, the third day of play.

The $1,090 buy-in event, the most ex­pen­sive of the three-week se­ries, drew 510 en­trants, cre­at­ing a prize pool of $510,000. The fi­nal two play­ers worked out a deal, with We­ber get­ting about $20,000 less than the planned first-place prize, and Adam Levy of Co­conut Creek get­ting about $20,000 more.
