Men­tal Health As­so­ci­a­tion hosts ‘EPIC Awards Lun­cheon’

Ex­cep­tional Peo­ple Im­pact­ing the Com­mu­nity (EPIC) 2012 marks the Men­tal Health As­so­ci­a­tion’s 17th an­nual cel­e­bra­tion of EPIC. This year’s “EPIC Awards Lun­cheon” will take place on May 15 at the Sig­na­ture Grand lo­cated in Davie.

Hon­orees in­clude: Vi­vian Demille; Ron El­lis; Marti Schwartz-el­lis; lead­ers of the Dis­as­ter Men­tal Health Emer­gency Di­vi­sion for the Red Cross; Dr. Ma­ri­etta Glazer; Re­becca Moudy; Allen Moudy; Dr. Bha­gi­rathy Sa­has­rana­man; Shari Thomas­both; Adrian Trager; and the Korean United Methodist Church.

“What these very di­verse and ded­i­cated in­di­vid­u­als have in com­mon is their com­mit­ment to the public good, their ef­forts to im­prove the lives of cit­i­zens of our com­mu­ni­ties and their ad­vo­cacy for per­sons with men­tal ill­ness,” said Chair Sharon Grad.

EPIC is a sig­na­ture event for the Men­tal Health As­so­ci­a­tion. Providers, pro­fes­sion­als, ad­vo­cates and clients gen­er­ate nom­i­na­tions for EPIC from the com­mu­nity. Work­ing with Sharon Grad this year are com­mit­tee mem­bers Faith Dressler, Alana Segall, Shane Weaver and Chris Yoc­u­lan.

Event spon­sors in­clude: GEO Care/south Florida State Hospi­tal; Eli Lilly; Northshore Hospi­tal; Fort Laud­erdale Hospi­tal; and the Sil­ber Foun­da­tion.

In ad­di­tion to the awards, the event will fea­ture a silent auc­tion and an ex­hi­bi­tion of work by artists of MHA’S 9Muses Art Cen­ter. The Sa­lon des Muses will of­fer guests the op­por­tu­nity to view and pur­chase art prior to the lun­cheon.

At its re­cent 54th birth­day Mhaboard Chair, Dr. Adam Rosen­berg, an­nounched that the or­ga­ni­za­tion has a “… new name, new brand and ex­panded vi­sion.” The new name is the Men­tal Health As­so­ci­a­tion of South­east Florida. “We’re still serv­ing the Broward com­mu­nity and are now out­reach­ing our plan­ning and ser­vices to Mi­ami-dade as well. Our vi­sion and our goal is to help wher­ever there is a need,” said Dr. Rosen­berg.

Pro­ceeds will ben­e­fit the pro­grams and ad­vo­cacy of Mhain­clud­ing: The 9Muses Art Cen­ter; the Thum­body Pro­grams; Lis­ten to Chil­dren; Par­ent­ing Ed­u­ca­tion/par­ent Sup­port (PEPS); Fam­ily Voices; and the SETH Linewarm Line. Pro­ceeds of art sales will ben­e­fit artist mem­bers of 9Muses.
