Mental Health Association hosts ‘EPIC Awards Luncheon’
Exceptional People Impacting the Community (EPIC) 2012 marks the Mental Health Association’s 17th annual celebration of EPIC. This year’s “EPIC Awards Luncheon” will take place on May 15 at the Signature Grand located in Davie.
Honorees include: Vivian Demille; Ron Ellis; Marti Schwartz-ellis; leaders of the Disaster Mental Health Emergency Division for the Red Cross; Dr. Marietta Glazer; Rebecca Moudy; Allen Moudy; Dr. Bhagirathy Sahasranaman; Shari Thomasboth; Adrian Trager; and the Korean United Methodist Church.
“What these very diverse and dedicated individuals have in common is their commitment to the public good, their efforts to improve the lives of citizens of our communities and their advocacy for persons with mental illness,” said Chair Sharon Grad.
EPIC is a signature event for the Mental Health Association. Providers, professionals, advocates and clients generate nominations for EPIC from the community. Working with Sharon Grad this year are committee members Faith Dressler, Alana Segall, Shane Weaver and Chris Yoculan.
Event sponsors include: GEO Care/south Florida State Hospital; Eli Lilly; Northshore Hospital; Fort Lauderdale Hospital; and the Silber Foundation.
In addition to the awards, the event will feature a silent auction and an exhibition of work by artists of MHA’S 9Muses Art Center. The Salon des Muses will offer guests the opportunity to view and purchase art prior to the luncheon.
At its recent 54th birthday Mhaboard Chair, Dr. Adam Rosenberg, announched that the organization has a “… new name, new brand and expanded vision.” The new name is the Mental Health Association of Southeast Florida. “We’re still serving the Broward community and are now outreaching our planning and services to Miami-dade as well. Our vision and our goal is to help wherever there is a need,” said Dr. Rosenberg.
Proceeds will benefit the programs and advocacy of Mhaincluding: The 9Muses Art Center; the Thumbody Programs; Listen to Children; Parenting Education/parent Support (PEPS); Family Voices; and the SETH Linewarm Line. Proceeds of art sales will benefit artist members of 9Muses.
