Chew on this: lo­cal chefs join fight against child­hood hunger

Some of Broward County’s hottest chefs, restau­rants and mixol­o­gists will gather for Share Our Strength’s “Taste of thena­tion” culi­nary ben­e­fit, to of­fer their spe­cial­ties and cook up sup­port for the na­tion­wide fight against child­hood hunger.

The event is planned for May 17 at the Broward County Con­ven­tion Cen­ter from 7-10 p.m.

A VIP re­cep­tion be­gins at 6 p.m. and in­cludes early ad­mis­sion, a pre-event re­cep­tion, a catered din­ing area, celebrity chef min­gling, gift bags and ex­clu­sive wines.

“Taste of thena­tion” will raise funds needed to sup­port Share Our Strength’s hunger fight­ing ef­forts.

Lo­cal ben­e­fi­cia­ries are the South Florida Hunger Coali­tion, Florence Fuller Child De­vel­op­ment Cen­ters Inc; and Feed­ing South Florida.

The event is a cel­e­bra­tion of the Broward Taste of the Na­tion’s hunger-fight­ing ef­forts in South Florida and a toast to the great South Florida chefs who have par­tic­i­pated to make it a suc­cess.

There will be more than 45 chefs and restau­rants par­tic­i­pat­ing, as well as a va­ri­ety of wines and spir­its.

“We are very ex­cited to fea­ture an abun­dance of de­li­cious dishes in a fan­tas­tic party at­mos­phere. Award-win­ning restau­rants and chefs from the South Florida area will pro­vide guests with the op­por­tu­nity to en­joy the city’s finest foods paired with per­fect wines,” said Event Chair, Kelly Mur­phy.

“Child­hood hunger is a per­va­sive re­al­ity in our com­mu­ni­ties and their par­tic­i­pa­tion is a pledge to our No Kid Hun­gry cam­paign with a com­mit­ment to end child­hood hunger in Amer­ica by 2015.

It is an ex­tremely im­por­tant en­ter­prise, be­cause each child de­serves a chance at a brighter fu­ture.”

In ad­di­tion to food and drinks, “Taste of thena­tion” will fea­ture live and silent auc­tions with items in­clud­ing rare and bou­tique wine lots, wine din­ners, cruises and va­ca­tions.
