Chew on this: local chefs join fight against childhood hunger
Some of Broward County’s hottest chefs, restaurants and mixologists will gather for Share Our Strength’s “Taste of thenation” culinary benefit, to offer their specialties and cook up support for the nationwide fight against childhood hunger.
The event is planned for May 17 at the Broward County Convention Center from 7-10 p.m.
A VIP reception begins at 6 p.m. and includes early admission, a pre-event reception, a catered dining area, celebrity chef mingling, gift bags and exclusive wines.
“Taste of thenation” will raise funds needed to support Share Our Strength’s hunger fighting efforts.
Local beneficiaries are the South Florida Hunger Coalition, Florence Fuller Child Development Centers Inc; and Feeding South Florida.
The event is a celebration of the Broward Taste of the Nation’s hunger-fighting efforts in South Florida and a toast to the great South Florida chefs who have participated to make it a success.
There will be more than 45 chefs and restaurants participating, as well as a variety of wines and spirits.
“We are very excited to feature an abundance of delicious dishes in a fantastic party atmosphere. Award-winning restaurants and chefs from the South Florida area will provide guests with the opportunity to enjoy the city’s finest foods paired with perfect wines,” said Event Chair, Kelly Murphy.
“Childhood hunger is a pervasive reality in our communities and their participation is a pledge to our No Kid Hungry campaign with a commitment to end childhood hunger in America by 2015.
It is an extremely important enterprise, because each child deserves a chance at a brighter future.”
In addition to food and drinks, “Taste of thenation” will feature live and silent auctions with items including rare and boutique wine lots, wine dinners, cruises and vacations.
Sponsors include: American Express; Sysco; Foodnetwork; Brown-forman; S.pellegrino Sparklingnatural Mineral Water; Panache a Classic Party Rentals Company; Mike Sipe Entertainment; Winewatch; Whole Foods Market; Cadillac; Nespresso; Bloomingdale’s; and the Marsh Foundation.
General admission tickets are $90; VIP tickets are $160.
