Lo­cal lead­ers hit the green to ‘Swing for Kids’ Sake’

On June 1 Mi­ami Dol­phins alumni Shawn­wooden and Ki-jana Carter will host “Swing for Kids’ Sake,” a golf tour­na­ment ben­e­fit­ing Big Broth­ers Big Sis­ters of Broward County.

The event be­gins with a shot­gun start at 9 a.m. at the Lago Mar Coun­try Club lo­cated in Plan­ta­tion.

Par­tic­i­pants are in­vited to en­joy a round of golf with con­test holes in­clud­ing two hole-in-one op­por­tu­ni­ties to win a new car, fur­nished by JM Fam­ily En­ter­prises and Ma­roone an Au­tona­tion com­pany.

Play­ers will have the op­por­tu­nity to com­pete in var­i­ous putting and on-course con­tests.

Fol­low­ing the morn­ing of golf, “Swing for Kids’ Sake” will also in­clude awards, silent auc­tion, raf­fle prizes and lunch.

Pro­ceeds from the event will go to pro­vid­ing chil­dren fac­ing ad­ver­sity with strong, pro­fes­sion­ally sup­ported one-to-one men­tor­ship re­la­tion­ships with an adult.

“Hav­ing cor­po­ra­tions and part­ners fro­macross South Florida come to­gether in sup­port of our chil­dren will help to raise aware­ness and much-needed do­na­tions to fund the life-chang­ing men­tor­ship we pro­vide,” said CEO of Big Broth­ers Big Sis­ters of Broward County, Ana Cedeño.

Top spon­sors of this year’s event in­clude: Publix Su­per Mar­kets; North­ern Trust; Ma­roone an Au­tona­tion Com­pany; and JM Fam­ily En­ter­prises.

“We are here for Big Broth­ers Big Sis­ters to con­nect sim­i­larly mo­ti­vated peo­ple and or­ga­ni­za­tions. We pro­vide a foun­da­tion for our chil­dren to achieve - they are the fo­cus in ev­ery­thing we do,” says tour­na­ment host and board mem­ber, Shawn­wooden.

Big Broth­ers Big Sis­ters of Broward County is a vol­un­teer sup­ported men­tor­ing net­work and holds it­self ac­count­able for chil­dren in its pro­gram to achieve mea­sur­able out­comes, such as ed­u­ca­tional suc­cess, higher as­pi­ra­tions, greater con­fi­dence and bet­ter re­la­tion­ships.
