United Way’s Toc­queville So­ci­ety honors Ray Ro­driguez

OnMay 2 Keith and Doreen Koenig wel­comed more than 100Unit­edWay of Broward County Toc­queville So­ci­ety mem­bers and guests for a pri­vate re­cep­tion at their home lo­cated in Plan­ta­tion.

Toc­queville So­ci­ety mem­ber Ray Ro­driguez was rec­og­nized at the re­cep­tion as the 2011/2012 Unit­ed­Way of Broward County Toc­queville So­ci­ety Award re­cip­i­ent for his phil­an­thropic lead­er­ship and vol­un­teerism. He was awarded for his com­mit­ment to vol­un­teerism, creative ap­proach to serv­ing the Broward com­mu­nity, out­stand­ing lead­er­ship, long-term fi­nan­cial com­mit­ment and en­cour­age­ment to oth­ers to get in­volved.

For more than 30 years Ro­driguez has been a com­mit­ted vol­un­teer and donor to Unit­ed­Way of Broward County. He served on the board of di­rec­tors as trea­surer and board chair, the fi­nance and al­lo­ca­tions com­mit­tees, and a strate­gic plan­ning task force that po­si­tioned Unit­ed­Way as a cat­a­lyst for change. He and his wife, Cindy, have been mem­bers of the Toc­queville So­ci­ety for 10 years.

Unit­ed­Way of Broward County’s Toc­queville So­ci­ety was es­tab­lished to deepen the un­der­stand­ing, com­mit­ment and sup­port of the gen­er­ous and com­mu­nity-minded in­vestors. In the spirit of the French po­lit­i­cal thinker Alexis de Toc­queville, and his ad­mi­ra­tion of vol­un­tarism in Amer­ica, Unit­ed­Way of Amer­ica founded the Toc­queville So­ci­ety in 1984.

Com­mu­nity lead­ers Bob El­more, Wayne and Marti Huizenga, Bob and Mil­li­cent Steele, andWil­liam and Norma Horvitz founded the United Way of Broward County Toc­queville So­ci­ety in 1990. The so­ci­ety rep­re­sents more than 100 in­di­vid­u­als and cou­ples who in­vest $10,000 or more per year in Unit­ed­Way of Broward County.

Unit­ed­Way of Broward County is a vol­un­teer-driven, com­mu­nity-based non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tion serv­ing Broward County for more than 70 years. Unit­ed­Way of Broward County mis­sion is to fo­cus and unite the en­tire com­mu­nity to cre­ate last­ing change in the im­pact ar­eas of ed­u­ca­tion, in­come and health.
