I just want to celebrate: Big Brothers Big Sisters’ honors youth advocates
Don some bling to celebrate with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County on Oct. 19 at its annual “Déjà Vu” fundraiser.
Guests will enjoy the splendor of rock ‘n’ roll’s famed Motown era with festivities including live acts, cocktails, a silent auction, dinner and dancing from 6 p.m. to midnight. The event will take place at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.
“Déjà Vu” is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County’s largest annual fundraiser. Hundreds of community partners are anticipated to attend the retro, costumed, all-night party to celebrate the organization’s 40 years of mentoring success. Doug Jones and Sixth Star Entertainment will produce this year’s annual Magic of Motown themed event.
At the heart of the event is the recognition of select child advocates who will receive gold records acknowledging their “chart-topping performance” in support of South Florida youth. This year’s “Déjà Vu” honorees include Child Advocate of the Year, Robert Leider; Visionary Corporation of the Year, Royal Caribbean International; and Impact Corporation of the Year, Gables Engineering. In addition, a Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to John Weller in consideration of his decades of support for the organization.
Event co-chairs Alyssa Lovitt and Susan Renneisen have planned non-stop entertainment and surprises in the form of musical acts and dance productions. Musical icon tribute performers such as Tom Jones, Tina Turner and Donna Summer have headlined previous years, and the highly anticipated 2013 act will remain top secret.
“Each year, our friends and partners give us the greatest gift by allowing us to make real, positive change for children and families in Broward County,” said Ana Cedeño, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County CEO. “With every donation to events like ‘Déjà Vu,’ we strengthen our ability to improve the lives of clients in our programs - youth who face adversity every day. We help children achieve success in life by realizing greater confidence, academic achievement and avoidance of risky behaviors.”
Sponsors include: Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Sixth Star Entertainment & Marketing, Printing Corporation of the Americas, Marketing Matters, Publix Super Markets, BB&T, JM Family Enterprises, WSVN, Comcast, AutoNation Inc., Royal Caribbean International, Timpano Italian Chophouse, SCG & Associates and Miller Construction Co.
Partnering with parents/guardians, schools, corporations and others in the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully pairs children (“Littles”) with screened volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) and monitors and supports these one-to-one mentoring matches throughout their course.
