Drumroll please…Covenant House Florida hosts ‘Night of Broadway Stars’
Broward Center for the Performing Arts will bring together the delights of Broadway for “Night of Broadway Stars,” benefiting the homeless youth sheltered by Covenant House Florida Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. The nonprofit organization shelters and serves more than 1,500 teens and young adults each year.
“Night of Broadway Stars” is a one-of-a kind musical experience, showcasing Broadway talent. Lead maestro sponsor is City Furniture and matinée sponsors include Accenture USA, T&G Constructors and Batchelor Foundation.
This year’s event honors the memory of Kevin Koenig, co-founder of City Furniture, and recognizes his continuing support. Under Koenig’s leadership, the “Kevin Koenig Memorial Covenant House Golf and Fishing Tournament” has raised more than $2 million for Covenant House over the last 18 years.
Paige O’Hara, known as Belle from Disney’s Oscar-animated film “Beauty and the Beast,” will also be honored. O’Hara is a native of Fort Lauderdale, who attended Parkway Middle School of the Arts in Lauderhill and Nova High School in Davie. Her career has since spanned from Broadway to opera, concert stages and recordings. The guest host for the event is Roxanne Vargas, the entertainment host and reporter for “6 in the Mix” on NBC 6 South Florida.
“Night of Broadway Stars,” created by lyricist and performer Neil Berg, will include selections from Broadway shows such as as “Phantom of the Opera,” “Chicago,” “Les Misérables,” “Wicked,” “Evita” and “Jekyll & Hyde,” performed by Broadway veterans Capathia Jenkins, Rita Harvey, John Treacy Egan, Natalie Toro and Quentin Earl-Darrington. Celebrated tap dance artist Ted Louis Levy also will showcase his talent.
The evening will begin with dinner stations and premier cocktails in the Peck Courtyard, while guests bid on silent auction items. Afterward, guests will head to the Broward Center’s Amaturo Theater for the Broadway event. During the show, a live auction will feature an $8,000 cruise donated by Azamara Club Cruises, the luxury brand of Royal Caribbean Cruises. After the auction and Broadway performance, guests will mingle with the Broadway stars and Covenant House youth at a dessert and champagne reception in the Peck Courtyard.
Tickets are $225 per person. For more information, call Elisa Stone at 954-568-7914 or visit www.NightOfBroadwayStarsFla. org.
