No heels nec­es­sary: Jack & Jill Chil­dren’s Cen­ter pre­pares for flip flops bash

Jack & Jill Chil­dren’s Cen­ter will host its an­nual “Flip Flops on the Rooftop” event May 9, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., at the Westin Beach Re­sort in Fort Laud­erdale.

Tak­ing place on the rooftop ter­race of the beach­front ho­tel, guests will en­joy ocean views and a sun­set while rais­ing funds to sup­port the ser­vices pro­vided by the or­ga­ni­za­tion. The beach-themed bash will fea­ture live en­ter­tain­ment by Weed­line, per­for­mances by the Aloha Is­lan­ders, raf­fles, auc­tions, food and trop­i­cal re­fresh­ments.

“It’s won­der­ful to see the out­pour­ing of sup­port from our com­mu­nity each year,” said Maria Meyer, di­rec­tor of de­vel­op­ment at Jack & Jill Chil­dren’s Cen­ter. “Fundrais­ers such as our madly en­ter­tain­ing ‘Flip Flops on the Rooftop’ en­able us to con­tinue im­prov­ing the lives of our cen­ter’s chil­dren and par­ents.”

The co-chair­women for the event are Sally Beach, Patty Hawk, Kerry Kel­ley, Marisa Olive and Re­becca Baugh­man Shriner. Pre­sent­ing spon­sor is the Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Al­had­eff and Sit­ter­son law firm.

Auc­tion items in­clude an eight-day Aza­mara cruise, four-day stay at At­lantis, a Maine cot­tage get-away, gift bas­kets with spa ser­vices, restau­rant cer­tifi­cates and more.

Jack & Jill Chil­dren’s Cen­ter was founded in 1942, by the Ju­nior League of Greater Fort Laud­erdale, to pro­vide child care for the chil­dren of work­ing moth­ers whose hus­bands were at war. As the pro­file of fam­i­lies changed, Jack & Jill evolved to a com­mu­nity-based pro­gram with a com­mu­nity-based board of di­rec­tors. Over the years, Jack & Jill has pro­vided more than 13,000 chil­dren with more than one mil­lion hours of qual­ity early child­hood ed­u­ca­tion.
