Porter happy to be playing again

- Michael Casagrande

CORAL GABLES — It all started with post- nap soreness and nearly ended Curtis Porter’s junior season. A preseason case of appendicitis — then an appendectomy, followed by complications — kept the Miami defensive tackle off the practice field for nearlytwo months. Porter’s season debut came last Thursday in the 30- 12 win over Virginia Tech.

More than anything, he’s happy to be back with his teammates. Speaking for the first time Wednesday, Porter said he wasn’t allowed to discuss the complications that followed his appendectomy. Playing about 30 snaps, Porter got more action than most coming off a health issue.

The saga began after waking up fromanAugust snooze with a pain in his side. After ruling out his initial selfdiagnosis of a lower abdominal strain, Porter went to the hospital.

■ Injured Miami S Deon Bush will miss Saturday’s game with the shoulder stinger aggravated in the Virginia Tech win. LB Denzel Perryman practiced Wednesday is a yellow limited- contact jersey, but coach Al Golden said hewas “between probable and doubtful” for Virginia with a lingering ankle injury. Perryman took the practice field without the walking boot hewore Tuesday. ■ Golden also confirmed freshman receiver Malcolm
