More than1,500 venues across the country participate in the program, held on the final Saturday in September each year.

At the Coral Springs Museum of Art, survival is in the spotlight in a compelling exhibition. “Breast Cancer Awareness Body Painting Project,” on view through Nov. 9, is a fine- art and photography essay featuring 23 photos of female survivors whose bare torsos were painted and photographed by MichaelD. Colanero, of Uncommon Gallery in Fort Lauderdale.

“The exhibit is a creative journey for survivors— several of them are from South Florida— showing in the process of dealing with breast cancer,” executive director Bryan W. Knicely says.

The exhibition is designed as art therapy, for the participants and for the viewers.

“It’s about living and saying I made it,” Knicely says.

Girl power also is on display at Nova’s Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale. “Women’sWorld: Contemporary Views ofWomen by Women” and the related “Bunny Yeager: Both Sides of the Camera” are on view through Oct. 8. Docent- led tours take place at 11a. m. and 2 p. m. Saturday.

Other venues participating in Museum Day Live! venues include Zoo Miami, the Gold Coast RailroadMuseum, Cason Cottage Historical House in Delray Beach, and Art and Culture Center of Hollywood.
