Aguayo on track to set ACC record
TALLAHASSEE — Florida State K Roberto Aguayo’s 45- yard field goal against Bethune- Cookman marked a career high.
It also added three more points to Aguayo’s tally this season of 35 points, which is quietly putting him on track to set an ACC record for points in a season.
Aguayo, a redshirt freshman, has been perfect on the year, connecting on all five field- goal attempts and 20 extra- point conversions.
His predecessor, Dustin Hopkins — who holds the NCAA record for career points — posted 140 points last year to set the conference’s single- season mark. “Dadgummit, don’t jinx the guy,” FSU coach Jimbo
Fisher said when asked about Aguayo’s perfect start. “Everyone kept talking about Dustin and all that; I think he’s just doing a great job being Roberto, which is a guy who’s extremely talented, has great leg strength and practices with great intensity and great consistency.”
Freshman OL Wilson Bell’s rehabilitation is ahead of schedule following surgery on his knee after suffering a torn medial collateral ligament against Nevada.
“Wilson Bell is doing very well,” Fisher said during his weekly call- in show on Wednesday.
“They said four to six weeks, but he is way ahead of schedule. I saw him bending, [ doing] a bunch of exercises yesterday.… I expect him back. Wilson is going to be a very fine player for us.”
