Adams, Cardinals hand Reds 1st loss

Matt Adams delivered his first home run of the season and the visiting Cardinals snapped the Reds’ season-opening winning streak at four with a 4-1 win on Saturday.

Michael Wacha (1-0) shook off Todd Frazier’s first-inning home run to go 6 1⁄3 innings, allowing five hits and one run with a walk and two strikeouts. Red Sox 8, Yankees 4: Joe Kelly pitched one-hit ball for seven innings and Brock Holt had four hits and drove in three as the Red Sox won their third straight. White Sox 5, Twins 4: J.B. Shuck’s two-out RBI single in the eighth lifted the White Sox to their first win. Adam LaRoche and Geovany Soto homered. Mariners 5, Athletics 4: Brad Miller had the go-ahead RBI double in the 11th for the Mari- ners, who got homers from Nelson Cruz and Dustin Ackley. Rays 2, Marlins 0: Chris Archer allowed one hit and one walk while throwing 84 pitches over seven innings. Tigers 9, Indians 6: Ian Kinsler hit a go-ahead RBI single and Yoenis Cespedes doubled in two during a four-run ninth as the Tigers moved to 5-0. Brewers 6, Pirates 0: Jimmy Nelson fanned a career-high nine in seven innings and Jean Segura hit a two-run homer as the Brewers earned their first win. Orioles 7, Blue Jays 1: Ubaldo Jimenez struck out eight and allowed one single over seven sparkling innings, and Jonathan Schoop hit a grand slam. Braves 5, Mets 3: Freddie Freeman homered to support Julio Teheran (2-0) as the Braves moved to 5-0 for the first time starting 7-0 in 1994. Phillies 3, Nationals 2: Odubel Herrera doubled home the winning run in the 10th with his first major league hit. Diamondbac­ks 6, Dodgers 0: Archie Bradley allowed one hit in six innings in his debut to beat Clayton Kershaw. Paul Goldschmid­t homered and drove in three. Astros at Rangers: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder entered with a .533 batting average (8-for-15) after four games. Cubs at Rockies: Kyle Kendrick took the mound for the Rockies, who looked for a 5-0 start for the first time in franchise history. Giants at Padres: World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner looked to go to 2-0 for the Giants. The Padres countered with James Shields. Royals at Angels: Jeremy Guthrie took the mound for the Royals, who sought their first 5-0 start since 2003.
