Park Vista’s Richter is second at 2A tourney

KISSIMMEE — Park Vista’s Dustin Richter finished second in his weight class at the FHSAA Class 2A Boys Weightlift­ing Finals at the Kissimmee Civic Center on Friday.

Richter, who was competing in the 199-pound weight class, bench pressed 430 pounds, the top bench press in his class. Then he clean and jerked a personal best 275 pounds, for a total of 705 pounds.

“It’s very exciting,” Richter said. “I’ve been working very hard in the gym, constantly practicing. … I got good numbers, so I was pretty happy about it.”

“Second place is a big deal. I wanted to get first, but I got second and I’m happy with that,” he added. “I’m going out with a bang as a senior.”

The other local wrestler that earned a medal on Friday was Alex Brosseau of Wellington, who finished sixth in the 219-pound class. Brosseau bench pressed 325 pounds and cleaned 315 for a total of 640 pounds.

Marcos Fernandez of Seminole Ridge finished seventh in the 238-pound class. Jeffrey Fanjul of John I. Leonard was seventh in the 129-pound class.

John Parisi of Boca Raton tied for eighth in the 183-pound class. Kyle Bieber of Royal Palm Beach finished eighth in the 219-pound class. Kristian Gonzalez of Seminole Ridge tied for eighth at 139 pounds. Matthew Musgrave of Lake Worth was ninth at 129 pounds.

Palm Beach Central’s Zikk Omoruyi tied for 10th in the 238-pound class. Brandon Fanjul of John I. Leonard tied for 11th in the 154-pound class. Seminole Ridge’s Alexis Ruiz took 12th in the heavyweigh­t class. Ernst Belliard of John I. Leonard tied for 13th in the 219-pound class.

Sterling Valentine of Wellington placed 14th in the 129-pound class. Luciano Hilton of Seminole Ridge (119 pounds) and Lake Worth’s William Mears (169) finished 15th in their weight classes. Craig Siegel of Park Vista (119) and Austin Taylor of Seminole Ridge (139) both finished 16th. Mark Lopez of Wellington was17th in the183-pound class.

New Smyrna Beach won the 2A team state championsh­ip with 19 team points. Port Orange Spruce Creek and Pace tied for second with 17 points.

The Class 1A weightlift­ing finals will be held Saturday in Kissimmee.
