Beachside library branch in Pompano moving soon

- — Anne Geggis

After closing the Pompano Beach Boulevard location in January, the beach branch of the library in Pompano Beach will be opening in a new location with a celebration on April 29.

The ribbon-cutting on the 5,400-square-foot location at 3250 NE 2nd St. will be at 10 a.m., and will include members of both Pompano Beach and Broward County commissions. The public is invited to attend.

The library’s relocation is in order to make way for the redevelopment of the city’s beachside between Northeast 2nd and 3rd streets and State Road A1A. A parking garage is expected to be built at the site of the demolished library.

The Pompano Beach Fire Department station now at 3264 NE 3rd St. is soon to make a move for the same reason — to109 N. Ocean Blvd. The station is moving one block south of the current location and over to the west side of State Road A1A, said Fire Chief Michael Hohl.
