C-SPAN to film segments on Fort Lauderdale history

FORT LAUDERDALE — The public affairs channel C-SPAN is coming to town Monday as part of its 2015 Cities Tour that looks at the literary life and history of selected cities.

Monday’s event takes place at 5 p.m. at one of the city’s most historical buildings, the 1905 New River Inn, with welcoming remarks by Mayor Jack Seiler and Broward Mayor Tim Ryan.

The Fort Lauderdale segments will appear on C-SPAN2 and C-SPAN3 on May 16 and 17.

The network’s representa­tives will announce Monday what stories and segments they will explore while filming in the city. They will visit local historic sites and interview local historians, authors and civic leaders.

The crew will also conduct community and education outreach, meeting with students, teachers and local groups about its public affairs programmin­g.
