KISSIMMEE — Six area weightlifters competed at the FHSAA Class 1A Boys Weightlifting Finals on Saturday.

American Heritage-Plantation’s Matt Marzan finished 15th in the 219-pound competition. Marzan bench-pressed 245 pounds, then clean-and-jerked 220 pounds for a total of 465 pounds.

“I’m happy I got to come out here and lift,” Marzan said. “I couldn’t ask for anything better. I’m blessed to have this experience.”

Heritage teammate Travis Jackson finished 15th in the 169-pound weight class. He bench-pressed 285 pounds and clean-andjerked 215 pounds for a total of 500 pounds.

“My high school weightlifting career was amazing,” said Jackson, a senior who also competed in last year’s state tournament. “I got stronger each year. I had a good time and met some cool people.”

American Heritage head coach Travis Spiva said competing in the state tournament was a good experience for his two lifters.

Jimcarry Jolicoeur of Village Academy placed 15th in the 154-pound class. Jolicoeur bench-pressed 235 pounds and cleaned 185 pounds for a total of 420 pounds. Teammate Manshiny Laguerre finished 16th in the 119-pound class after bench-pressing 125 pounds and clean-and-jerking 100 pounds for a total of 225 pounds.
