Glenda Lubiner has a passion for her profession.

It recently paid off as the Plantation resident was named the 2015 Florida Art Educator of the Year by the National Art Education Association. Lubiner teaches art at Franklin Academy Charter School in Pembroke Pines and Broward Col- lege.

“It’s one of the highest honors,” Lubiner said. “It’s not about the award really. It’s being recognized by your peers. In Broward County alone, we have amazing art teachers.”

Pam Brown, a teacher at Nova Blanche Forman Elementary School in Davie, originally nominated her for Middle School Educator of the Year through the Flori- da Art Education Association.

“She is the go-to person whenever a new teacher needs help,” Brown said. “She is willing to give supplies, advice and demonstrations as a mentor. She is in our local art teacher organizations. In our local association, she has been a board member and officer for years. She is involved in every meeting.”

Brown added that Lubiner makes a big difference with stu- dents.

“She does exhibits with the children and brings guest speakers into the school. She goes above and beyond to gather materials the school may not have,” she said.

Lubiner, who has taught for almost 20 years, said her passion remains strong and she wants to make a difference in her classroom, whether with elementary, middle or post-graduate students.

“This award is being given to recognize excellence in professional accomplishment and service by a dedicated art educator,” NAEA President Dennis Inhulsen said in a press release. “Glenda B. Lubiner exemplifies the highly qualified art educators active in education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars and advocates who give their best to their students and the profession.”
