Top quarterbacks in the NFL draft

-

Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly breaks down the 2015 NFL Draft, one position at a time, in a 10-part series.

1. Florida State’s Jameis Winston: A proven pro-style quarterback who won at the highest level of college football and lost just one college football game. Whichever team selects him must become comfortable with who Winston is off the field.

2. Oregon’s Marcus Mariota: Mariota, the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner, was a consistent playmaker in a spread offense who threw for plenty of touchdowns (105) with few interceptions (14). But his mellow personality raises some concern about his leadership skills.

3. UCLA’s Brett Hundley: He is tall, athletic and possesses a strong arm, which means he looks the part of an NFL starting quarterback. But Hundley didn’t show improvement from 2013 to 2014 and might need some developmental time.

4. Baylor’s Bryce Petty: Petty was a very productive two-year starter for Baylor who threw for 62 touchdowns and had just 10 interceptions in a spread offense. He’ll have to get used to three- and five-step drops in the NFL.

5. Colorado’s Garrett Grayson: He spent the past two seasons proving he’s an accurate passer with a strong arm. Grayson must learn to play under center and needs to clean up his mechanics. But he’s a good leader with the intangibles needed to be successful.
