AROUND THE HORN

-

Royals: The team placed AllStar closer Greg Holland on the disabled list because of a strained right pectoral muscle. Manager Ned Yost said Wade Davis would close in Holland’s absence. He said if Davis works two or three days in a row that Kelvin Herrera “could do it.” Holland has not allowed a hit in four scoreless innings. ... RHP Yordano Ventura was ejected in the fourth inning against the A’s after hitting Brett Lawrie with what appeared to be a retaliatory pitch. Lawrie drew the ire of the Royals on Friday when he slid hard and late into SS Alcides Escobar at second base.

Angels: OF Josh Hamilton and his wife, Katie, are in the process of getting a divorce, according to court documents filed in Tarrant County (Texas) earlier this year. Josh and Katie Hamilton have been married since 2004. He filed for the divorce in late February, around the time when reports of his offseason substance abuse relapse surfaced.

Orioles: 2B Jonathan Schoop was placed on the DL because of a sprained right knee. Schoop said he got hurt when he tripped over first base in Friday night’s game against the Red Sox. He said a late, hard slide by Pablo Sandoval wasn’t the cause of his injury. IF Jimmy Paredes was recalled from Double-A Bowie.

Reds: RHP Homer Bailey (elbow) came off the DL to start against the Cardinals. He allowed five runs on nine hits in 52⁄3 innings. RHP Pedro Villarreal was sent to Triple-A Louisville.
