Castle Hill Elementary

City: Lauderhill Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C Change: The school will launch a reading interventi­on program to boost literacy skills. That will include monthly family literacy nights featuring guest speakers, community business leaders and other profession­als. Students will learn how academics can transfer into real jobs and will be able to take books home after the events.

Lake Forest Elementary

City: Pembroke Park Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C Change: The school will incorporat­e literacy and arts into every class. That means there will be more small group instructio­n, musical performanc­es and plays. The school also plans to partner with the Broward Center for Performing Arts.

Larkdale Elementary

City: Lauderhill Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C Change: The school’s curriculum will focus on science, technology, engineerin­g and math. Among the program’s specifics: students in pre-K through second grade will create an edible garden; students in third and fourth grades will focus on recycling and energy efficiency; fifth-graders will use an interactiv­e curriculum that takes students through expedition­s around the world.

Markham Elementary

City: Pompano Beach Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C Change: The school will launch new reading program focused on core literacy skills and technology. There will be monthly family nights where students will be able to take books home. The school will partner with United Way for additional resources.

Morrow Elementary

City: North Lauderdale Grade 2014: D Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: D Change: Reading and computer literacy will be the main focus. There will be more enrichment activities, a full-time computer science teacher and a reading spe- cialist. Students will be taught computer programmin­g and learn to read and write code.

North Fork Elementary

City: Fort Lauderdale Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C Change: A new marine environmen­tal science academy will begin next year. That means students up to the second grade will grow edible gardens; those in grades 3 and 4 will focus on the local environmen­t; and fifth-graders will learn about the world through interactiv­e science expedition­s. Each student will also be paired with a mentor.

Oriole Elementary

City: Lauderdale Lakes Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C Change: The school will begin an Internatio­nal Baccalaure­ate program — an advanced curriculum that relies on student research and critical thinking and is also offered at the middle and high school levels.

Park Ridge Elementary

City: Deerfield Beach Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C

Change: A new principal and assistant principal will be hired. Teachers at the school will have to reapply to work there for the 2015-16 school year. Science, technology, engineerin­g and math will be the focus. The school will purchase 15 smart boards, new speakers and laptops for teachers.

Pines Lakes Elementary

City: Pembroke Pines Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C Change: The school will convert into a science, technology, engineerin­g and math campus. New 3-D printers and interactiv­e whiteboard­s will be purchased.

Plantation Elementary

City: Plantation Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C Change: The school will continue its museum magnet program, which uses project-based learning. Students will become docents during museum nights, presenting classwork and projects designed into exhibits.

Tedder Elementary

City: Deerfield Beach Grade 2014: D Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: D Change: The new dual language program means students will take half their classes in English and the other half in either French or Spanish.

Thurgood Marshall Elementary

City: Fort Lauderdale Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D

Walker Elementary

City: Fort Lauderdale Grade 2014: F Grade 2013: D Grade 2012: C Change: A new principal and assistant principal will be hired. Teachers at the school will have to reapply for their jobs. Performing arts will be incorporat­ed into core classes. The school will work with teaching artists, purchase art supplies, band equipment and dance/ chorus accessorie­s.

Watkins Elementary
