Surging Rangers keep Royals reeling

Wandy Rodriguez gave up one run on six hits in seven innings and Shin-Soo Choo doubled home a pair as the Rangers beat the Royals 4-2 for their seventh win in eight games. The Rangers have won six straight series for the first time since 2012.

The Royals have lost nine of 11. Tigers 7, White Sox 1: David Price struck out 11 in a complete game. The Tigers ended an eight-game slide. Miguel Cabrera’s two-run home run led an 18-hit onslaught. Braves 5, Pirates 4: Christian Bethancour­t’s walk-off homer capped a 3-for-4 night. Chris Johnson homered. Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run shot. Cubs 4, Nationals 2: Jason Hammel improved to 9-0 with a 3.01 ERA in 11 starts against the Nats. Bryce Harper hit his 19th homer. Yankees 8, Angels 2: Brian McCann hit a two-run homer in the Yanks’ fifth win in a row. Garrett Richards surrendere­d six runs in two-thirds of an inning. Giants 7, Phillies 5: Madison Bumgarner struck out 11 in eight innings, overcoming a grand slam by Jeff Francoeur. Bumgarner singled twice and drove in a run. Padres 9, Reds 7: Yonder Alonso hit a grand slam and Matt Kemp homered and drove in five in the Padres’ biggest comeback of the season. The Reds once led 6-1. Red Sox 4,A’s 2: Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run homer, David Ortiz an RBI double and Mike Napoli a run-scoring single. The Red Sox have won four of their last six. Rockies 10, Marlins 5: Wilin Rosario homered twice and Carlos Gonzalez hit a three-run shot in a season-high 17-hit attack. Chris Rusin struck out eight in seven IP. Blue Jays 7, Astros 2: Jose Reyes stole three bases and got two hits in the Jays’ season-high fourth straight win. Drew Hutchison is now 4-1 with a 2.72 ERA at home. Brewers 4, Twins 2: Carlos Gomez went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Francisco Rodriguez notched his 10th save in 10 tries. Indians 2, Orioles 1: Danny Salazar (6-1) struck out 10 in seven IP. Nick Swisher homered, and Carlos Santana’s double broke a tie. Mets at D’backs: Bartolo Colon tried to become the first in the NL to win nine. The D’backs’ A.J. Pollock was at .429 in his last 17. Cardinals at Dodgers: The Dodgers were in danger of their first four-game skid since 2013. Clayton Kershaw faced Jaime Garcia. Rays at Mariners: Felix Hernandez’s Mariners looked to avoid an eighth straight loss. The Rays had won four straight, six of seven.
