Don’t blame teacher for student’s choice
I am torn between laughing and crying over the letter, “Schools Can’t Set Students Up to Fail,” in which a parent went all the way to the School Board to complain when her son failed a high school ceramics class.
The parent writes that her son has “always struggled in art” and even went to an occupational therapist. Ceramics class is not required to graduate from high school. It’s an elective — that means it is a choice. He didn’t need to take the class, he made a clear choice to do so. Not so wise when you’re bad at art.
He needs to accept responsibility and be held accountable.
