Body found in stairwell; man charged
A 23-year-old Lauderdale Lakes man was arrested Monday night, accused of gunning down a man at a Lauderhill apartment complex back in March.
Jean Edwin Altenor is being held without bond on one count of premeditated murder, records show.
He appeared briefly in court Tuesday afternoon, where he declined a public defender and told the judge his family would be hiring a private attorney.
Broward judge John “Jay” Hurley rescheduled Altenor’s bond hearing for Wednesday afternoon.
On March 30, officers responding to an 11:25 p.m. call of gunfire found Jevon Douglas’ body in the stairwell of the Inverrary Club Apartments, said Lt. Gregory Solowsky, Lauderhill Police Department spokesman.
The 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene in the 2700 block of Northwest 56th Avenue.
According to a warrant for his arrest, Altenor shot Douglas three times: once in the torso, once in the lower left leg and once in the upper right thigh.
Altenor has three previous arrests in Florida on charges of burglary, trespassing and dealing in stolen property, records show.
