Archer dominates as Rays top Jays

Chris Archer (9-4) won his sixth straight decision Tuesday, allowing one earned run on three hits over eight innings as the host Rays beat the Blue Jays 4-3.

Asdrubal Cabrera homered, and Brandon Guyer and Joey Butler had RBI singles. Cardinals 4, Marlins 3: Carlos Martinez (8-3) struck out nine in seven innings. Jason Heyward homered. The Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton hit a 484-foot home run. Orioles 6, Red Sox 4: David Lough hit a three-run homer as the Orioles won for the 12th time in their last 15 games. Manny Machado had an RBI double. Tigers 7, Indians 3: Nick Castellano­s and Yoenis Cespedes drove in two each in a six-run fifth. The Indians’ Jason Kipnis (4-for-5) extended his hitting streak to 18. Braves at Nationals: Stephen Strasburg (neck) returned to the Nats’ rotation after three weeks on the DL. Both teams had three-game winning streaks. Reds at Pirates: RHP Josh Smith made his major-league debut for the Reds. The Pirates had won six in a row at home and had not allowed a run there in 30 innings. Phillies at Yankees: The Phillies were seeking their third straight victory. Yankees OF Brett Gardner was 14-for-27 with three home runs in his last six games. A’s at Rangers: Billy Burns had a 12-game hitting streak for the A’s. Rangers RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez (0.90) had the lowest ERA in his first four starts since 2005. Dodgers at Cubs: The Cubs had won three straight and were eight games above .500 for the first time since 2009. But they faced Zack Greinke (5-2, 1.81). White Sox at Twins: Mike Pelfrey aimed to remain unbeaten at home. The White Sox had scored three or fewer in nine straight games, their worst since 1976. Mets at Brewers: The Mets had tied a season high with a fivegame losing streak. The Brewers had dropped eight of nine. D’backs at Rockies: The Diamondbac­ks and Chase Anderson (3-1, 2.84) tried to reach .500 for the first time since being 8-8. Astros at Angels: Albert Pujols had hit 15 home runs in his last 24 games. C.J. Wilson (5-5, 3.39) faced Collin McHugh (7-3, 5.04). Royals at Mariners: Mariners LHP Mike Montgomery (1-2, 2.73) faced the team that drafted him in the first round in 2008. Padres at Giants: The Padres had scored three runs or fewer in eight of their last 10 and had to deal with Madison Bumgarner.
