Several locals named to All-State softball team
Coral Springs Charter’s Allison Muraskin and American Heritage’s Jenna Goodrich were named Player of the Year in their respective classes Wednesday for the Miracle Sports All-State Softball teams.
Muraskin led the Panthers (29-0-1) to the Class 4A state title, going 26-0 with a 0.52 ERA and 293 strikeouts. Goodrich, who guided the Patriots (25-2-1) to the 5A state title game, hit .471 with three home runs and 31 RBI. The Georgia Tech signee also went 15-1 with a 0.38 ERA, 148 strikeouts and four no-hitters.
Seven area players were named to the Class 8A first team, including Cypress Bay’s Lexi DiEmmanuele and Maggie Scott, Cooper City’s Kara Lokeinsky, Palm Beach Gardens’ Tiffany Lower, South Plantation’s Emma Maitland and Jessica Trana, and Coral Springs’ Alexandra Voss.
Class 7A was represented by St. Thomas Aquinas juniors Brianna Stella and Thais Gonzalez, who was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Pembroke Pines Charter’s Claire Blount was the area’s lone representative on the 6A first team.
Goodrich, along with teammates Brooke Langston and Hannah Sipos, were part of the 5A first team.
Muraskin was joined by Coral Springs Charter junior Kayla Scaperrotta and American Heritage-Delray’s Addison Simpson. Charter’s Mark Montimur- ro took 4A’s Coach of the Year honors.
Grandview trio Summer Burgess, Kaitlin Conrad and Caitlin Rolson plus Glades Day’s Kassidy Roberts were named to the 2A team.

Ely alum Thomas hosts camp
New York Giants linebacker J.T. Thomas will host a free youth camp Saturday at Carter Park.
The inaugural event, running from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. for sixth- to eighth-graders, focuses on teaching football basics and life skills.
Thomas, a Blanche Ely alum, will assist at the camp, along with local coaches and several NFL players. Thomas, who was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2011 and later played for two seasons in Jacksonville, signed a three-year, $12 million deal with New York in March.
The J.T. Thomas Foundation supports children with autism and other neurological disorders.
Western’s Gordon chooses college
Western goalie Janine Gordon will play this fall at Francis Marion (S.C.), the university announced on Wednesday.
Gordon went 12-3-1 as a senior. She recorded 81 saves and five shutouts.
