Myth-busting What don’t people know about this job: There is a perception that we spend our time attending luncheons and fancy after-hours events, but that’s not really accurate, nor does it encompass all that is included in this position. A lot of energy and strategy is put forth toward working within a set budget, attending a lot of internal and external meetings, “boots on the ground” type site visits and listening tours with many nonprofit organizations. Additionally, this job involves communicating and convening our internal teams on many different initiatives that we are

usually working on simultaneously.

The take-away: Through our charitable efforts, donations and countless employee volunteer hours, we recognize our role as a stakeholder in Palm Beach County. Strategies What’s new: Technology — the different apps, social media, online fundraising.

Engage: I rely on networking with different chamber young professionals groups, leadership organizations and getting involved with volunteer groups.

Advice to young professionals: Be the first one to arrive and the last one to leave. On the side Reading: “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail,” by Cheryl Strayed
