If you’re looking for live music, there are plenty of options on Friday nights this summer in Fort Lauderdale.

The city recently kicked off its annual Starlight Musicals summer concert series, and the Sound Wave series also was recently launched.

Fort Lauderdale resident Matt Bartek looks forward to the annual series.

“I love how it brings my family and friends together for a great night of entertainment,” he said. “It’s always a relaxing and fun time.”

The weekly Starlight Musicals concerts began June 19 and feature a variety of local musicians from a wide range of genres. Concerts are at 7 p.m. Fridays through Aug. 7 at Holiday Park, 1300 E. Sunrise Blvd. Parking is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and food.

The free concert series started more than 30 years ago. The lineup continues with the Valerie Tyson Band on July 3, Pocket Change on July 10, Viva Rock Band on July 17, Mr. Nice Guy on July 24, Chain Reaction on July 31, and Brass Evolution on Aug. 7.

The concert series also incorporates food drives that benefit the Pantry of Broward, LifeNet4Families and Abandoned Pet Rescue. The event also picks one local nonprofit each week to

highlight during the show.

Fort Lauderdale also has started a weekly Sound Waves series from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Las Olas Boulevard and A1A. It also takes place on Fridays through Aug. 7.
