- By Brian Ballou Staff writer

A 53-year-old woman shot her daughter and two small grandchildren before killing herself inside the Greenacres home they shared, police said Sunday.

Grandmother Nilda Sheffield shot her daughter Elizabeth Flores, 30, and grandchildren Xavier Neff, 7, and Sofia Chiddo, 2, said Greenacres police Lt. Brady Myers.

Police are searching for a motive in the apparent murder-suicide in the 4600 block of Chariot Circle.

The horrific scene was discovered by a family friend about noon Saturday, Myers said.

“That friend told authorities they had not been accounted for since Friday evening,” Myers said.

A group of young adults and small children gathered at the edge of yellow police tape in the neighborhood of duplexes, at times weeping and hugging each other on Saturday afternoon.

Neighbors said the family had lived in the neighborhood for about five years.

“This is terrible,” said Annarita Wenhold, who has lived in the neighborhood for 40 years. “This is the first time we’ve ever had anything like this.”

Maria Menjivar, 59, lives across the street from where the bodies were found. She gasped when she heard the news.

“I’ve seen that baby on the tricycle,” she said.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call Detective S. Murray at 561-642-2160.
