Long ball launches C. Springs to win

CORALSPRIN­GS— Collins Field was a launch pad for Coral Springs American in Tuesday’s District 10 Little League Baseball Major Division All-Star Tournament championsh­ip game.

The host 11- and 12-year-olds hit six home runs — three in the first inning — to power past rival North Springs, 18-0, and complete an undefeated three-game run through district play.

T.J. Guice and Ryan Cayuso each connected for three-run shots, and Alex Figueroa added a solo homer, as the American squad erupted for eight runs in the opening inning.

Cayuso also hit a solo homer during a 10-run third inning.

The north Broward County champions finished the four-inning game with 17 hits to support the pitching of Ryan Monakey, who struck out 11 and did not allow a hit in a completega­me masterpiec­e.

Daryl Carney and Mikey Sarakinis also went deep with three- and two-run home runs respective­ly as Coral Springs American applied the exclamatio­n point in the third inning.

Matt Vargas also contribute­d to the Coral Springs American onslaught from the plate with a double and single, and Guice had a pair of singles in addition to his home run.

Damien Rodriguez came through with a pinch-hit double.

The boys from Mullins Park advance to the Section 8 tournament at Floyd Hull Stadium in Fort Lauderdale during the July 17 weekend. They will go up against district champions from south Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
