Royals prevail in grand style

Paulo Orlando hit his first career grand slam in the ninth inning off All-Star closer Brad Boxberger to give the Royals a 9-5 victory over the Rays in the opener of a day-night doubleheader Tuesday. Cubs 7, Cardinals 4: Jake Arrieta (9-5) pitched into the seventh to earn his ninth win, and Anthony Rizzo launched his 16th homer in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. Reds 5, Nationals 0: Johnny Cueto (6-5) pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts. The Reds scored five runs against Max Scherzer (9-7) in 42⁄ innings. Red Sox 4, Marlins 3: Xander Bogaerts’ three-run single in the seventh put the Red Sox ahead. Indians 2, Astros 0: Corey Kluber (4-9) won his first decision since May 28 for the Indians, allowing five hits in 62⁄ shutout innings. A’s 4, Yankees 3: Brett Lawrie homered against Dellin Betances in the top of the 10th for the A’s. Padres at Pirates: The Padres had lost three in a row, while the Pirates had won eight of their last 10. D’backs at Rangers: The Rangers’ Yovani Gallardo (7-6) tried to extend his scoreless streak of 291⁄ innings, the longest in the majors this season. Orioles at Twins: Brian Dozier of the Twins entered the game with 46 extra-base hits, most in the AL. Braves at Brewers: The Braves’ Manny Banuelos will make his second start after a scoreless debut. Blue Jays at White Sox: Jose Quintana (4-7) was 4-0 in his previous five starts against the Blue Jays. Angels at Rockies: The Angels had won seven in a row vs. the Rockies, and last lost in Denver in 1999. Tigers at Mariners: Taijuan Walker (7-6) had won five straight starts for the Mariners. Phillies at Dodgers: Chad Billingsley (0-2) started for the Phillies against his former team, looking for his first win since April 10, 2013.
