Stretch mind and body at FAU Yogathon

- By Nick Sortal Staff writer

A college campus is the ultimate place to stretch your mind, and because this is a yoga story, you know where this is going: At FAU Broward Yogathon, you can stretch your body, too.

On Saturday, Florida Atlantic University’s Davie campus will host six consecutive yoga classes of various types. While most fitness activities on campus are restricted to students and faculty, this one is open to the public, says Diego TorresMalaga, FAU’s coordinator for campus life.

“We really want to connect with the community about promoting a healthy lifestyle,” he says.

Broward Yogathon will take place outdoors on Diversity Way, a wide lawn that connects the FAU Davie Student Union and the FAU Davie Liberal Arts building. Vendors will sell healthy nutrition products and advisers will promote positive lifestyles. There also will be food trucks.

Paty Renda, a part-time yoga teacher at FAU, lined up the instructors. She also will lead the 3:45 p.m.session, teaching a playful and relaxing form of yoga she created called Revati. The schedule is as follows: 9:30 a.m.: Catherine Remotti, meditation and hatha yoga; 10:45 a.m.: David Chambers, Budokon yoga; noon: Alina Flor, acro yoga; 1:15 p.m.: Yanni De Melo, Ashtanga yoga; 2:30 p.m.: Adam Bator, vinyasa flow yoga; 3:45 p.m.: Paty Renda, Revati yoga.

FAU Broward Yogathon will begin 9 a.m. Saturday at Florida Atlantic University, 3200 College Ave., in Davie. Admission is $20, free for children 12 and younger. Mats will not be provided. Call 954-236-1018.
