Davie man stashed cash and gun in bushes after car crash, police say

A man ended up in jail after he ran fromthe scene of a crash to hide cash and a gun in some nearby bushes, authoritie­s said.

Ryan Cohee, 33, of Davie, is facing several charges, including possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of burglary tools with intent to use, according to court records.

According to a police report, Coheeran away after he crashed his pickup truck along the 8800 block of West Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation around midnight Jan. 29.

The other driver chased Cohee, stopping him when, according to police, Cohee “fell into the bushes” on the northwest corner of West Sunrise Boulevard andNorth Pine IslandRoad. Both drivers then returned to the scene of the crash and waited for police, according to an arrest report.

When officers arrived, they sawa joint and two loaded magazines inside Cohee’s truck, the report said. Also inside they found a bag of marijuana and a backpack with several face masks, a beanie cap, sunglasses and a loadedAK-47 magazine.

Police then searched around the bushes where the other driver had seen Cohee fall, and found a gun and several hundred dollars in cash, the report said.

Cohee has an extensive criminal record, including past charges of drug traffickin­g, drug possession and grand theft, court records show.
