Frost set to sign first recruiting class

- — Shannon Green

IN THE BAG: Even though UCF got a later start than after hiring new coach Scott Frost on Dec. 1, the school was able to tie down a good amount of local recruits prior to signing day. The Knights will rely on several junior college athletes to deliver an immediate impact on their offensive and defensive lines, including defensive end Chris Mulumba Diablo Valley College and offensive guard Christian Beard, who is already enrolled at UCF. The Knights have a steady supply of quarterbacks already on the roster, but they added McKenzie Milton from Hawaii.

UP FOR GRABS: At least a handful of three- and four-star UCF targets are expected to make signing day announcements, which could make for an eventful day for Knights fans. Three Florida-based recruits Dredrick Snelson (WR), Jordan Johnson (OL) and Trysten Hill (DT) are among the group slated to make decisions today. A late push could help UCF land defensive linemen D.J. Davidson from Mesa, Ariz., and Joe Sanders from LaGrange, Ga.

OVERALL OUTLOOK: Frost’s inaugural recruiting class is ranked No. 8 out of 12 American Athletic Conference teams and No. 85 nationally, according to 247sports.com. Given the circumstances, it’s still a solid effort and the Knights are addressing the most critical needs in bolstering the offensive and defensive lines. It will take a few years before Frost can consistently recruit top-tier classes.
