Vols turn the tables on Wildcats

Kevin Punter Jr. scored 27 points, and Armani Moore added 18 points and 13 rebounds as Tennessee erased a 21-point deficit in an 84-77 upset of No. 20 Kentucky on Tuesday night in Knoxville, Tenn.

Tennessee’s comeback represented a stunning turn of events for a teamthat had lost its last two games despite leading by at least 14 points in the second half of each. The Volunteers (11-11, 4-5 SEC) trailed 34-13 with less than 6 minutes left in the first half.

It marked the second straight defeat for Kentucky (16-6,6-3). The Wildcats fell 90-84 in overtime Saturday at No. 7 Kansas, ranked fourth at the time.

The score was tied at 70 until Robert Hubbs III madea free throw with 5:04 left to start a 7-0 run that put Tennessee ahead for good.

Georgia 69, S. Carolina

56: Yante Maten scored 18 points, Kenny Gaines had 17 and the host Bulldogs handed the No. 25 Gamecocks their third loss.

Georgia (12-8, 5-4 SEC) led by 10 points at halftime and never trailed in the second half.

J.J. Frazier scored 13 points — all in the second half — and hit two 3pointers in the closing minutes for Georgia. The Bulldogs snapped a two-game losing streak.

South Carolina (19-3, 6-3) was denied its attempt to reach 20 wins for the first time since 2009.

Oklahoma 95, TCU 72:

With Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant on hand, Buddy Hield scored 17 points to help the No. 1 Sooners (19-2, 7-2 Big 12) defeat the Horned Frogs (10-12, 1-8) in Norman, Okla.

Hield, the nation’s No. 2 scorer, was coming off consecutive games with at least 30 points but was held well below his 26.2-point average.

Coach K out: Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski was not with the Blue Devils for Tuesday night’s game at Georgia Tech.

School officials issued a statement saying Krzyzewski “was feeling under the weather” after the team meal Monday night and stayed in Durham, N.C.

Associate head coach Jeff Capel was in charge during Coach K’s absence.
