Maryland’s Stone stops Huskers

Freshman Diamond Stone had 16 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks, and No. 4Maryland held off Nebraska 70-65 on Wednesday night in Lincoln, Neb.

Melo Trimble had 14 of his 20 points in the second half as the Terrapins (20-3, 9-2 Big Ten) overcame a slew of turnovers to remain a half-game behind conference co-leaders Indiana and Iowa.

Andrew White III had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Nebraska (12-11, 4-6).

Xavier 90, St. John’s 83:

Myles Davis scored 18 points and Trevon Bluiett added 15 points and 13 rebounds to lift the No. 6 Musketeers to a victory over the Storm.

J.P. Macura had 12 points and seven rebounds for Xavier (20-2, 8-2 Big East), while James Farr added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Felix Balamou scored 20 points and Durand Johnson 18 for St. John’s (7-16, 0-10).

Villanova 83, Creighton

58: Kris Jenkins scored 22 points and Jalen Brunson had 16 as the No. 3Wildcats rolled over the Bluejays.

Josh Hart added 13 points and nine rebounds for Villanova (19-3, 9-1 Big East). Maurice Watson Jr. led Creighton (14-9, 5-5) with 16 points and five assists.

Iowa 73, Penn State 49:

Jarrod Uthoff had 14 points and the Hawkeyes defense forced the Nittany Lions into a bad shooting night.

Peter Jok and Anthony Clemmons both added 12 points for No. 5 Iowa (18-4, 9-1 Big Ten), while Adam Woodbury grabbed 15 rebounds.

Brandon Taylor had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Penn State (11-12, 2-8), which went 1-for-20 from 3-point range and shot just 30.4 percent from the field.

Kansas 77, Kansas State

59: Perry Ellis scored 19 points to help the No. 7 Jayhawks pull away from the Wildcats.

Dominated on the glass all night, Kansas (18-4, 6-3 Big 12) overcame its poor rebounding and some streaky shooting in part by forcing Kansas State (13-9, 2-7) into 23 turnovers. Stephen Hurt had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats.
