Legislators reject anti-Semitic motives

-

I find the argument in the Feb. 1 letter “Will Florida Take Action?” regarding Florida’s proposal against “boycott, divestment and sanction” of Israel specious.

Why is it that certain people can find Israel’s self-defensive actions inhumane, but those same individuals seem not to blink an eye at the aggressive, hate-filled and unprovoked attacks by Arabs on innocent Israelis, in malls, in schools or on highways? Why not address those wrongful actions with the same vehemence you label Israel’s right to defend its citizens and its very existence?

If the writer argues that the attacks by Arabs are by individuals, my question to you is— who do you think ignites the fires of hatred to create a mass of individuals willing to carry out such abhorrent actions, and then in typical fashion cry, “poor me?”

The letter argues that the Florida Legislature’s position proclaiming that “standing up against Israel” is anti-Semitic is “furthest from the truth.” This is the classic disingenuous argument of anti-Semites, whose true feelings are thinly veiled and evident to those of us who have experienced the effects of this selfrighteous posturing for many years. The couching of boycott, divestment and sanction under the mantle of a false cry for justice is just that and misplaced.
