LAUDERHILL — Three people were sent to the hospital after a car plowed into their Lauderhill home.

A couple sleeping on their bed were awakened when a Honda crashed through their bedroom, a hallway and then wrecked a bathroom across the hall, said Jeff Levy, division chief for Lauderhill FireRescue.

“The vehicle went about 20 feet into the home,” he said. “It pushed the bed with them on it. They got out through awindow.”

The driver was found, officials said.

The crash happened just before midnight Wednesday in the 3200 block of Northwest 16 Street, according to Lauderhill Fire Rescue.

The couple suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital along with their 14-year-old daughter, who wasn’t injured during the incident, Levy said.

Next-door neighbor Terrance Gaines, 26, was fixing himself something to eat when he heard the crash.

“I hearda boom, cameoutside, saw clouds of smoke and my neighbors were frantic, in a panic,” he said. “All the neighbors came outside and tried to help, then cops arrived and fire rescue showed up.”

Gaines said he didn’t see the car at

be first. It was all the way inside the house. He did see his neighbors, a man, woman and teenage girl stumbling through the debris.

“His skull was bleeding, his wife had lacerations all over her body, she was covered in blood and [their daughter’s] eye was swelling up a little bit,” he said. “They were scared, panicked a lot.”

The car was eventually towed of the home.

On Thursday morning, sheets of plywood were nailed up to cover the massive hole in the front of the house. A bright orange sticker on the front door indicated the house was unsafe to live in.
