SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE

With two cold fronts hitting South Florida, stiff winds will make for big seas Friday and Sunday. Capt. Skip Dana said anglers on the Helen S drift boat at Hillsboro Inlet Marina caught yellowtail and mutton snappers this week. Charter boats had a few sailfish, dolphin, kingfish and wahoos fishing the edge. Capt. Chris Lemieux said the best fishing off Boynton Beach was for mutton and vermilion snappers and big triggerfish. A few kingfish were biting on the reef. He said snook and lots of jacks bit Wednesday at the Boynton spillway.

THE KEYS

Richard Stanczyk of Bud N’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada said the sailfish bite was slow, although some boats had three or four releases. There were some nice kingfish biting and very good yellowtail snapper fishing.

SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE

Capt. Jason Sullivan reported catching snook, redfish and sea trout on fly in the backcountry of Everglades National Park by covering as much water as possible, as the fish have been scattered some days and concentrated on others. Spanish mackerel and mangrove snappers were biting in Florida Bay.

EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER

Bass anglers fishing out of Everglades Holiday Park were catching fish on the flats off the L-67A Canal using plastic swimbaits, lizards and frogs.

LAKE OKEECHOBEE

Most anglers caught plenty of bass Thursday on the first day of the Walmart FLW Tour event out of Clewiston, but with cold fronts and windy weather in the forecast, fishing should get tougher. The biggest stringer weighed 25 pounds and the average was 10 pounds, 4 ounces.
