- Marcia Heroux Pounds

National physician group Mednax has acquired Mid-Missouri Neonatology of Columbia, Mo., the company said T uesday.

The acquisition is the fourth of the year for the Sunrise company. The previous acquisitions were a pediatric practice in San Antonio, Texas, and two unrelated anesthesia practices in Richmond, Va., and Savannah, Ga.

Mid-Missouri Neonatology employs three full-time neonatologists. The practice provides delivery, neonatal, newborn nursery, pediatric and consultative services at Boone Hospital Center.

Dr. Timothy O’Connor, Mid-Missouri Neonatology’s medical director, said Mednax will provide “the infrastructure and other support we need to further enhance the services we have been providing in our community for more than 20 years.”

Mednax said the acquisition adds to the services the company already provides in Missouri, including maternal-fetal, neonatal, cardiac and hearing screen services.

The transaction was for cash, but the purchase price wasn’t disclosed.

Mednax provides services through a network of more than 3,300 physicians in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, as well as services to health care centers and physicians in 40 states through its medical billing company and consulting services.

Mednax, whose stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange, reported revenue of $2.78 billion in 2015, up 14 percent from$2.44 billion the year before.
