Chicago Bears take ’Canes safety Bush

When the call finally came in and the family around him clamored to know who it was, Deon Bush smiled and pointed at his chest, which coincident­ally happened to be sporting a Chicago Bears shirt.

Bush, the former Hurricanes hard-hitting safety who entered draftweek projecting as a sixth-round pick was instead taken in the fourth round by the Bears with the 124th overall pick. In Chicago, he’ll be reunited with former Miami teammate, punter Pat O’Donnell, and former Miami great AntrelRoll­e.

“It was just a great feeling. All this hard work you put in and to get the opportunit­y to play for an organizati­on like the Bears, I’m thankful,” Bush said Saturday afternoon fromhis South Florida.

“I’m going to make sure I prove them right, that they know they made the right pick. I’m going to bring my lunch pail and putmywork in every day.”

Bush finished with 50 tackles and one sack last season. He broke up six passes, recovered two fumbles and had an intercepti­on during a senior year in which he started 12 games.

Bush is the second Hurricane and the second member of Miami’ s defensive backfield taken in the draft following corner back Artie Burns, a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers. ...

Hurricanes cornerback Tracy Howard, a former Miramar High standout, signed a free agent deal with Cleveland, where he’ll be reunited with former Miami teammate Duke Johnson.

Defensive tackle Calvin H eur te lou indicated on Twitter that he had signed with the Denver Broncos, and linebacker/defensive end TyriqMc Cord signed with Pittsburgh.
