Mall adds electric car charging station

Charging stations are welcomed features at shopping plazas as more drivers make the switch from gasoline to electric-powered cars, drivers and mall operators say.

Anelectric car charging station has been installed at Coral Square Mall in Coral Springs.

The NRG EVgo Freedom Station is by the mall’s food court main entrance. The 50 kilowatt DCFast Chargers are expected to recharge vehicles in 30 minutes or less.

EVgo hasmore than500cha­rgers in 32 metro areas nationwide. In South Florida, it has chargers atDadeland­Mall and The Falls in Miami and at two Nissan auto dealership­s, in Weston and Fort Lauderdale, according to EVgo’s website.

“It is our mission to put the right chargers in the right places,” said Arun Banskota, president and CEO of EVgo.

Coral SquareMall is at 9469W. Atlantic Blvd., between the Sawgrass Expressway and State Road 7. Another electric vehicle charging station — for Teslas — was recently installed in Plantation at TheFountai­ns shopping center at 801S. University Drive.

“Given the rapid expansion of the electric vehicle market, creating an infrastruc­ture to support and charge these vehicles has become more important to not only car manufactur­ers, but also consumers,” Brandon Glenn, communicat­ions manager for DDR, the company that operates the Fountains, said after the installati­on of the Tesla station. drivers
