BOGO deals for fun this summer

- Doreen Christensen

Pull out the sunscreen because it’s time to save on fun in the South Florida sun.

The 2-for-1 Summer Savings program kicks off Sunday through Sept. 30 and offers buy-one-get-one-free offers at museums, restaurants, shopping and every imaginable thing to do on land, sand and sea.

The program, sponsored by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau at Sunny.org, has offers from more than 70 participating South Florida businesses.

Visit Sunny.org/Summer to see the deals and order cards by mail, print or show the offers on your smartphone. No coupons are necessary. It’s fun to act like a tourist on a cruise up the New River aboard the Jungle Queen ( Hello, there!), zip through the Everglades on an airboat or take an educational farm tour at Tradewinds Park& Stables in Coconut Creek. Take a sunset sail and go fishing or snorkeling.

Catch up on the latest exhibits at museums or wander around our fantastic local botanical gardens with admission deals at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, the Museum of Discovery and Science, Bonnet House, Butterfly World and Flamingo Gardens.

Chill out ice skating at the Florida Panther’s Ice Den in Coral Springs, hang ten surfing on the Flow Rider at Margarita ville Hollywood Beach Resort or get free coupon books at Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise and the Shops of Pembroke Gardens in Pembroke Pines.

There are seven spas deals, which come in handy just in time for Mother’s Day on May 8. Treat the lady in your life to a relaxing massage at the Diplomat Hotel, Marriott Harbor Beach or Pier 66.

There also are tasty deals at 13 restaurants and bars, including 2-for-1 offers at The Whole Enchilada and the Lone Palm Beach Bar at Margarita ville and see the show for free at the historic Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale.

Here’s a travel tip: Visitors bureaus are a great savings resource. Check the visitor’s bureau directory to find offers on lodging and entertainment in a city you’re visiting at SunSentinel.com/CVB.

If you’re staying close to home on a staycation, the Palm Beach County tourism bureau offers a Discover Pass with savings at Lion County Safari, the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, Fun Depot and Palm Beach Zoo starting at $25. Sample beers at five breweries with a $15 Brew Pass, and book hotels at a discount at PalmBeachFL.com.

Sunny.org’s Vacation Like a VIP program also offers terrific discounts on accommodations at luxury hotels and resorts through September.

After signing up for summer savings offers by mail, a VIP deal pops up to book a two-night hotel stay to get a free $25 American Express gift card, a beach towel, ball and flip-flops.

Just add hat and sunscreen.
